HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old software engineer has managed to escape from the clutches of two miscreants, who tried to sexually assault her in a moving car on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway.
The Special Operation Team (SOT) police of Rachakonda in Hyderabad detained the two persons, who had tried to rape the woman techie.
The victim escaped from the clutches of the duo and lodged a complaint with police of Choutuppal in Nalgonda district.
A case has been registered under the New criminal amendment (Nirbhaya) Act, after which it was transferred to LB Nagar police in Hyderabad for further investigation.
According to the police, a woman was waiting at LB Nagar crossroad
for a bus to travel to Vijayawada on Wednesday night. The two accused noticed her waiting on the stretch. The duo took their cab, approached the victim, and convinced her that they would take her to Vijayawada.
"Trusting them, the woman got into the cab after fixing a price for the travel to Vijayawada. When the vehicle crossed Panthangi Tollgate, near Choutuppal, the accused tried to assault the woman sexually. As she started screaming and hitting the doors of the vehicle, the assaulters halted the vehicle. Immediately, the woman managed to get off the vehicle and quickly alerted the police control room staff with a phone call," police said.
Based on the woman's phone signal, the police mobile vehicle reached the spot and took her to the Choutuppal police station. The police then registered a case and transferred the case to LB Nagar police station.
"Higher officials have formed special teams and detained the two accused from Moula-Ali locality for committing the offence. They have also seized the vehicle from the accused," LB Nagar police said.
The woman works as a software engineer in an IT firm in Gachibowli in the city. She is a native of Guntur of Andhra Pradesh.
