Odisha: Man held for marrying woman by posing as IAS officer on Facebook

The man impersonated himself as IAS officer Lingaraj Panda and married the woman, an ASHA worker, of Damodarpur village, about 15 days back.

BARIPADA: Police on Monday night detained a man on charges of impersonating as an IAS officer and marrying a woman at Damodarpur village in Khunta block in Mayurbhanj district.The accused, identified as Rabindra  Panda of Tihidi area in Bhadrak district, impersonated himself as IAS officer Lingaraj Panda and married the woman, an ASHA worker, of Damodarpur village, about 15 days back.

Khunta IIC Rina Behera said Lingaraj faked himself as Malkangiri Sub-Collector.He won the confidence of some people of Khunta and Jharpokharia police station areas and assured them of providing government jobs. He allegedly duped people of money with promises of providing jobs. He had created a fake Facebook as IAS in social media, the IIC added.

On being informed, a team of police personnel first followed his activities for some days and later caught him from his in-laws’ house. The IIC said he will be handed over to Malkangiri police after case verification in Jharpokharia police station on Wednesday.
