Three Kerala students killed after bike rams into tree

Vinu Mathew, who was critical, died on his way to the hospital. Lester and Ashwin succumbed when they were undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam on Wednesday morning.

KOTTAYAM: A boy died on Tuesday while two others succumbed to their injuries in Kerala on Wednesday morning after the bike they were travelling on lost control and rammed into a tree at Illickal Thazhe near Marangattupilly road here. According to the police, the accident occurred at around 5.50 pm on Tuesday when the bike took a sharp curve.

After the sharp turn, the bike first hit a compound wall before slamming into the tree. The deceased-- Vinu Mathew (19) from Ranni, Lester (19) from Kollam; and Aswin, (19) from Kollam-- were on their way to Pala. The victims were students of Labour India College, Marangattupilly near Pala.

Local residents said refusal of help from passing vehicles caused a delay in shifting the injured students to hospital. While Vinu was taken to hospital in a car, Lester and Aswin had to be taken to Government Medical College Hospital by a private bus.
