THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government on Wednesday said it had submitted on time the list of police officers be considered for the President’s police medal. The other day, the Union Home Ministry had excluded the list alleging delay on part of the state government in submitting it.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Vigilance) Nalini Netto told ‘Express’ there was no delay on the part of the state government and it had submitted the list within the specified time.
The names of officers with the Kerala Fire and Rescue Services to be considered for the medal were accepted by the MHA as the list was submitted in time. According to a top officer with the Home Department, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had not accepted the online application and they had demanded the ‘certified hard copy’, which led to the exclusion.
“January 4 was the last date for submitting the application. In fact, we could send the list online on December 30. Later, we sent the hard copies on January 16.
But the MHA was of the opinion that they could not accept the list via online after a decision by an expert committee in New Delhi,” the officer said. It is learnt that the efforts by the Home Department to include the names in the list in the final hours also went in vain. Nalini Netto was in Delhi earlier this week to set things right.
However, the MHA had strongly opposed the state’s move citing that the process of preparing the list was a time-consuming one, according to a source.
