KOZHIKODE: After his party came down heavily against the State government, CPI leader Benoy Viswam took the issue to new heights by visiting the body of slain Maoist leader Kuppu Devraj at Kozhikode Government Medical College on Friday. After paying homage to the Maoist leader, the former forest minister said that he paid the visit as per the decision by his party.

“The police should not endear themselves to the right wing while the State is ruled by left front,” he said while addressing the media persons.

“We oppose the politics of Maoists. But, the Communist comrades should not be gunned down,” he said.

The body of Kuppu Devraja was cremated at public crematorium at Mavoor Road on Friday evening. Human rights activists from across the State paid their last respects to the slain leader.
