Mysuru: In a bid to increase tourism revenues, Forest Department is violating several norms and policies.
According to the CAG report, officials in the Department have also been accused of turning a blind eye to the illegal establishments being constructed inside national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. For instance, in Bandipur Tiger Reserve, the assessed carrying capacity - maximum number of tourists a site can sustain - was 660 trips.
But, during a CAG audit, authorities were found to operate trips in excess of the said number in the silent zones. Considering resorts, there were 51 working resorts inside six national parks and reserves, of which 44 were operating illegally.
