DUBAI: Former Indian batsman Sandeep Patil was on Wednesday named the brand ambassador of the Indian indoor cricket team.

Patil will be the face of the team in the lead-up to the 10th edition of the World Indoor Cricket Federation (WICF) World Cup, scheduled to be held from September 16 to 23.

The week-long tournament will be held in partnership with Cricket Australia (CA) and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), at the Insportz Club here.

The 60-year-old Patil played 29 Tests and 45 One-Day Internationals (ODI) for India from 1980-1986. He was also the member of the 1983 World Cup winning squad.

He later served as the manager of the Indian team in 1996 and was Kenya's coach as they made it to the 2003 World Cup semi-final.

Commenting on his new role, Patil said: "I am delighted to be the ambassador of the Indian indoor team. It is always a pleasure to be associated with this great game. I sincerely wish my Indian indoor team the best in the tournament."
