BDA focusing on green cover Express News Service @ Bhubaneswar Housing and Urban Development Minister Niranjan Pujari on Friday said the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has been concentrating on effective transformation of the city to make it a liveable and child-friendly. Speaking at the 35th Foundation Day of BDA, Pujari said 3T - team work, transparency and technology - have already been there and BDA added one more T- transformation to it by topping the list of Smart City proposals in the country.
He said the agency has been giving more emphasis on affordable housing, development of peripheral areas and infrastructure so that Bhubaneswar can handle a population pressure of around 20 to 25 lakh in future. "The city was once famous for its unique cool breeze, but due to urban development, the breeze is no longer felt in the core areas of the capital. The BDA is focusing to improve green areas to regain the lost glory," Pujari, who is also Chairman of BDA, said.
The Minister claimed that Bhubaneswar, with its present green cover, would beat every other city and given a choice of all beautiful cities in the world, he would prefer the former over others. BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said the citizens need to ensure responsible behaviour towards both BDA and BMC so that Bhubaneswar can excel in its Smart City planning. On the occasion, 10 meritorious students (children of BDA employees) were awarded a scholarship of `5,000 each for securing 90 per cent or above in Class X examination. Bhubaneswar MLAs (Central) Bijay Kumar Mohanty and (North) Priyadarshi Mishra also spoke.
