Ten year rigorous imprisonment for raping minor

Seventeen years after he allegedly raped a minor girl, a 46-year-old man was sentenced for ten years rigorous imprisonment by a special court here.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Seventeen years after he allegedly raped a minor girl, a 46-year-old man was sentenced for ten years rigorous imprisonment by a special court here on Thursday. Ajayas alias Ani of Manikanteswaram near Vattiyoorkavu is the convict.

The special court that deals cases related to atrocities and sexual violence against women and children also imposed a fine of `5.5 lakh on the convict. The amount will be handed over to the victim.


According to the prosecution, the crime was committed in June 2000, when the victim was 16 years old and the accused was 29.

The accused was a construction worker and he got acquainted with the girl, a resident of Vilappilsala, when he visited her neighbourhood for work. He lured her into a relationship and convinced her to elope with him.However, the victim was not aware that the accused was already married and father to two children. He took her to Kannur, where he allegedly raped her. He also took her gold ornaments and pledged them for money.
