THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A fire broke out in the godown of an electronics and home appliances dealer at Vattiyoorkavu here on Thursday. No casualties were reported.

The fire brigade said they were alerted by a resident near the godown around 6 a.m. "Eight tenders from various units in the city and Kattakkada have been deployed," an official said. The firefighting operation that started around 6.20 am continued for more than three hours.

The godown is owned by Radhev Commercial Agencies at Vattiyoorkavu. Though the exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, officials suspect it to be a case of short circuit.

The godown is situated near the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan school at Kodunganoor.

"Tenders cannot reach close to the spot as the godown is situated in a narrow bylane. This prolongs the dousing operations," said a fireman.

Personnel of the Vattiyoorkavu Police Station also pitched in with the firefighting efforts.
