KOCHI: It is an understatement that Indians are movie buffs who seek to emulate their stars on screen. So when an app comes along that promises to let you buy that tee or gown from your favourite song, what more can you ask for? Fashin is that and more.
Boasting an aggregation of over 3,000,000 products from 1,600 brands across different portals, Fashin, available for free on Android and iOS, lets you choose clothes, dresses, shoes, and fashion accessories for men and women in an easy-to-use interface.
Apart from listing various products in its interface that redirect you to appropriate fashion websites, the unique aspect Fashin boasts of is its Artificial Intelligence engine. When viewing a video in the app, the software automatically extracts the images in the video and lists out similar products across portals such as Flipkart, Myntra, Amazon, Jabong, etc. When you click on buy, you would be directed to the website concerned to make the purchase. Voila! As simple as that.
And there’s more. You can click pictures of a dress, upload it to their database, and select from the numerous buying options. Existing images in your phone’s gallery can also be uploaded. In addition, you can compare discounts offered by different e-commerce portals.
Gurgaon based artificial intelligence (AI) startup Staqu, the brain behind Fashin, was founded in 2015, and has 20 employees currently. Atul Rai, co-founder and CEO, says Fashin is the first-ever AI-powered fashion app in the world. The AI engine of the app automatically recognises the colour, pattern and shape of the outfit. Coupled with its deep learning technology, the app displays similar products on sale across various portals.
Two patents have been filed with the Government of India on this technology, says Atul. On the revenue model, he says a commission is collected from the eCommerce portals for a sale done through Fashin.
An undisclosed sum has been raised from Indian Angel Network, and the company is seeking additional funds from venture capitalists, says Atul, before signing off.
So all you fashionistas, it is time to wear the stardom on your sleeves, what say?
