Chennai: A 20-year-old laborer was hacked to death in an under-construction site in Royapettah in the wee hours of Monday and a hunt has been launched for his co-worker identified as Mullainathan. The deceased L Chinnaparaj of Tindivanam reached the city a month ago for want of better wages and found work at a construction site on Deiva Sigamani Salai at Royapettah. The suspect Mullainathan is from Thittakudi in Cuddalore district and a diploma graduate, said police. “On Sunday night, a quarrel erupted between Chinnaparaj and Mullainathan under the influence of alcohol and other workers intervened and compromised them. Mullainathan who went out after the fight reached the site late in the night and others allowed him thinking he came to sleep there. However, around 3 am, one of them found Mullainathan running away while Chinnaparaj was lying in a pool of blood with a severe head injury,” said a police officer.
