11 lakh children to benefit from immunisation programme

Thevaccine now being administered only by private medical institutions at a stiff charge of `3,000 per dose will be administered free of cost from July.

CHENNAI: Over 11 lakh children aged under five will benefit from rota virus vaccine that is going to be included in the national immunisation programme by the State health department.

This vaccine, now being administered only by private medical institutions at a stiff charge of `3,000 per dose, will be administered free of cost from July.

On Friday, Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar inaugurated training programme on rota virus vaccine implementation for health workers at the Health and Family Welfare Training Centre in Egmore, and released booklet for them.

According to a release from the health department, 40 per cent diarrhoeal cases reported in India are due to rota virus infection.
